My name is Mary Lu. I design and create most of the items that I offer here on Amethyst Lobster. I have always been something of a recycling artist. I have spent several years as an art and antique dealer in New York's Chelsea section. I bring this appreciation of the past to my jewelry creations. I reuse antique and vintage items such as Victorian buttons, crackerjack and bubblegum charms, bakelite buckles and other little lost treasures. I am inspired by the great painters of the Pre-Raphaelites, Art Nouveau and Arts and Crafts schools. Wouldn't you love to wear the jewelry on Sarah Bernhardt from a Mucha poster? I hope someday to offer you that!
The vibrant streets of New York City offer me inspiration. I love the multi-cultural, multi-life-style, celebrations of fashion and fun that are displayed everyday. I'm also inspired by the sea. I live on the Jersey Shore and often walk the beaches and forests of the area. Here I find shells and branches, rocks and feathers. You'll find these in my jewelry too.
